The Landlord Eats

In March, 1951, the Viet Minh shifted their political emphasis from nationalism to the pursuit of a Communist ideal. The Viet Minh began to employ the the tactics that had won victory for Mao Tse-tung in China. Agrarian reform began to receive urgent attention. Just as Mao had declared war on the landlords and rich peasants in South China, the Viet Minh linked the “overthrowing of imperialism and the defeat of the feudal landlord class.” By reducing land rents and interest rates and distributing land belonging to landlords, they began to rally support.
